The European Association for the Study of Religions presents Public Religion / Religious Publics

Sep 27- Oct 1, 2027, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Welcome to the website of the 2027 conference of the European Association for the Study of Religions (EASR), taking place in Amsterdam from 27 September to 1 October 2027. The conference theme, Public Religion / Religious Publics, invites us to consider the many ways in which religion and public life intersect, and we look forward to welcoming scholars from across Europe and beyond to Amsterdam.

As preparations for the conference develop, this website will be updated regularly with new information. You can already consult the conference timeline, including the publication of the Call for Papers, registration deadlines, and the date when the programme will become available. Amsterdam and the History of the Study of Religion

Amsterdam holds a distinctive place in the institutional history of the academic study of religion. In 1950, the city hosted the Seventh International Congress for the History of Religions, where the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR) was formally established.

The Dutch Association for the Study of Religion (NGG), founded in 1947 on the initiative of Gerardus van der Leeuw, played an important role in the establishment of the IAHR. Eighty years after its founding, the NGG is pleased to welcome the European Association for the Study of Religions (EASR) to Amsterdam in 2027.
